STILL BROKEN: By random action rather than specific intent...
- Summary in the subject line, but the client's About screen reports:
Release 8.5
Revision 20081211.1925 (Release 8.5)
Standard Configuration
- The Server is R8.5 as well, but I'm not sure of build version. Console says "Dec 5 '08" at the top.
- Server is on the D: drive and Client is on the C: drive.
- The regular client is up in standard (framework?) mode. If it's not I get a dialog that says Designer won't run from Basic mode, but I don't see that dialog. I run the client using "notes.exe", not "nlnotes.exe", because the latter appears to be that very same Basic mode that prevents Designer from working.
- I attempt to load Designer the way I have for over a decade ... I right-click an icon on the workspace and select "Open in Designer". I don't even know how to run Designer by itself, though if I looked through the client directory I'm sure I could find it. (grin)
- Found it. Today, at least, it loads "designer.exe" fine as frog hair. It will NOT launch Designer from the client. Zonealarm pops the same dailog about checkPID.exe, then nothing happens. It's like this binary is aborting the load of Designer.
- If I launch Designer by itself, then tell it to open the client it does just that, which is more than passing strange. My Home page assignment got lost, but otherwise it appears to be correct.
- If I then right-click -> Open in Designer from the client it works, because Designer is already open from trying it above. If I close Designer and open from the icon it works again. If I close Designer and Client, open the client, and open from the icon, it works again.
- Apparently once BOTH client and designer were opened at once it automagically updated soemthing somewhere, and now it *seems* to always opens both as expected.
- We'll see what happens tomorrow.
- Thanks for your time, Maureen!...
